Skullcap extract is extracted from the dried root of the dicotyledonous plant Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. It is a traditional herb. Baicalin is the best known bioactive compound backed up by clinic experient. It is a kind of flavonoids extracted and isolated from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. Physical property

The skullcap extract is yellow powder. It is easily soluble in alkaline solution, hardly soluble in ethanoland is relatively stable under dilute acid conditions. For example, it will not be hydrolyzed in a 2% sulfuric acid solution, but the acid concentration increases and the temperature rises to 110 ℃, it can be hydrolyzed to produce glucuronic acid and baicalein (baicalein) .

Extract process

Boil pluverised skullcap herb in water , combine the decoction, reduce volume. Adjust pH to 1.0-2.0 with hydrochloric acid, keep temperature at 80℃ . Filter. Add proper water to the dissolve precipitation, stir, adjust the solution ph to 7.0 with 40%sodium hydroxide; add equivalent ethanol, stir and filter, adjust the PH of filtrate to 1.0-20, stand still and Keep temperature at 60℃. dilute the precipitation with different volume ethanol and water till PH reache 7.0. Condense the ethanol, reduce press and dry.
