*Antioxidants protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, which are a by-product of normal metabolism that has a destructive effect. Free radicals in the body will snatch the electrons of other molecules and damage cells and genes. This process is called oxidation. Research conducted by the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that lutein fights against free radicals like vitamin E, which is a powerful anti Oxidant. Lutein is concentrated in the retina and crystals. It can protect the eyesight by neutralizing free radicals and increasing pigment density. For destructive glare, lutein also has a masking effect.
